At the House impeachment hearing:

DEMOCRATS: we are issuing subpoenas for White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, former National Security Adviser John Bolton, Mulvaney’s senior adviser Robert Blair to testify at this hearing.

REPUBLICANS: They don't have to appear. HIs Stable Genius of Unmatched Wisdom doesn't want them to.

At the Senate impeachment trial:

DEMOCRATS We want to issues subpoenas for White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, former National Security Adviser John Bolton, Mulvaney’s senior adviser Robert Blair to testify at this trial.

REPUBLICANS (in high dudgeon) It's not the job of the Senate. The subpoenas should of happened in Congress. It's like you want the defence (sic) to do the job for the prosecution. That's not how it works.

NEWSFLASH: refusing to appear when subpeonaed is not how it is supposed to work.
