Both are bad, but the loss of truth is worse than the loss of freedom.
Without
truth, you can't have biblical freedom, which is the ability to do what
is right and good. That is what "The truth will set you free" means. That is why dictators always lie.
A FB friend posted this:
My English friend Jim Memory just posted this moving photo of Christians from Ukraine and Russia praying together for each other and for peace. Someone asked me recently what difference prayer makes in such a situation, but at the very least it’s a way that Christians from enemy nations declare before God that they stand in solidarity with each other in the cause of peace.
Our conference superintendent, Greg Yee, interviewed pastor Andrey Khilchenko of City of Rain Covenant church in Kent, WA. This is a church primarily composed of Ukrainians, Russians and other Slavs. I was saddened to hear that pastor Andrey has the same problem many Americans are having. He was born in Ukraine, but his family lives in Russia. He considers himself Ukrainian, and thinks Putin is wrong for invading that country. His family, however, are Russians, and believe Putin's lies, that Ukraine is full of Nazis and are practicing genocide. Communication between them has become impossible.
Father,
You are the Truth.
There is no freedom--no ability to be good and to do what is right--apart from your Truth. Your truth is what makes us free. Authoritarians know this, and so they always resist and twist the truth.
May your truth transform the hearts of the Russians and their leaders, so that they will put down their arms and allow Ukrainians to live in freedom and peace.
We long for your kingdom to come, and for your will to be done, on earth as it is in heaven!
We ask this in Jesus' name,
Amen.
