Thoughts on the Day After

It's Nov. 4, 2020.

I've been re-reading Stanley Hauerwas and William Willimon's "Resident Aliens." They reject the entire American political and nationalistic narrative, and call us to a different narrative: the narrative of discipleship. I am finding the need to repent of all the ways I have swallowed the former narrative, and paid more attention to my American citizenship than my citizenship in the Kingdom. "The little story I call my life is given cosmic, eternal significance as it is caught up within God's larger account of history." (p. 55)
I've also been reading Jeremiah, who lived and suffered among people who persisted in their unfaithfulness, despite being given repeated chances to repent. Jeremiah's depression ran deep; he wrote an entire book lamenting the situation of his people. But his suffering was testimony to the truth, that one day, God's kingdom would come, and his will would be done on earth as it is in heaven." Lord, only you can save me. Only you can save us. Only you can save the day. I believe. Help my unbelief.
