• Oregon is 46th in the nation for people owning their own homes
• Over 25% of Oregon households are unable to subsist @ poverty level for 3 months with no income
• Last year a greater percentage of Oregon’s population experienced
homelessness than any other US state (0.54% of Oregon’s pop)
• Among those experiencing homelessness, people in families grew almost 10%
• Oregon’s 2009 One Night Homeless County showed a 35-37% increase in homelessness across state, mostly represented by the newly homeless, a total of 17,000 Oregonians
• 2/3 of Oregon’s 560,000 low income households pay more than 1/3 of their household income for housing
• Since 2000, Oregon has lost 67 manufactured dwelling parks with 2644 homes
• As of Feb. 2009, three manufactured dwelling parks with 157 spaces were in the process of closing
• Number of homeless veterans has doubled over the last 4 years
• Number of homeless, childless couples increased 100%
• Almost ½ of the Oregon households counted had a member with an emotional, mental or substance abuse challenge
• Sept 2009 14% increase in homeless schoolchildren. Up to 18,000 (up from 15,851 last year and 8,143 in 2003-04)
• Hispanic students in Oregon must change schools more frequently than their white peers
